If you are new to diving, then you are probably just finding out that a dive torch is an essential item you will need when it comes to night diving. Dive torches were designed to help you illuminate night waters so you can easily discover and explore underwater treasures, cracks, crevices and depths at whatever time you like. Night diving is also something that seems to have gotten more popular over the years which means it’s important to know how to buy the right diving torch for you. There are so many great varieties out there, you might not be sure which one to choose. However, you needn’t worry because below we have covered everything you need to know when thinking about investing in dive torches.

The first thing you need to look for when you are browsing dive torches are labels such as pressure-proof and water tight. It is important to know the right terminology and you should avoid anything that says waterproof. Waterproof is something that is only good on land while it is raining as it resists water but not the pressure of the ocean. The last thing you want to happen is to be down in the dark to have your light go out because it was not built to withstand pressure. Labels such as those mentioned in the beginning are what you should be looking for.

The next thing you should look for is a style that you like and prefer. For someone who is a beginner, the best choice would probably be something that resembles a flashlight style. These dive torches come in a huge variety of sizes that are made for different times of the day. You can find great compact style handheld lights which are great for searching a little deeper during the day or you can choose a lantern style light for when you want to explore at night. You might also notice canister lights but might not be sure what they are made for. Canister lights are great for those of you who are planning to explore a cave or a wreck as they are much brighter and connect to your waist. You should choose the style based on where you plan to go diving and what you need the torch to do.

Finally, the last thing you should look for is what the torch actually consists of. Now when I say this, I mean the type of batteries it takes and the type of bulb that it uses. When it comes to batteries there is only one choice I will ever recommend and that is rechargeable batteries. There are a few reasons for this and they are that dive lights use a lot of power so they will go through normal batteries quite quickly, meaning you will actually spend more replacing them then you will fronting a little more money when you purchase the torch. Another reason is that you won’t end up producing as much landfill waste which is way better for the environment. When it comes to the bulb, there are only a few things you should know and that is that tungsten bulbs and halogen bulbs will cost you less but use more power and are not as bright. HID bulbs and LED bulbs are a little more expensive but much more efficient when it comes to power use and they are much brighter. Hopefully after reading this article choosing the right dive torches for you has become a lot easier.
