get rid of a hickey

Next time you get a hickey you didn’t want to get, instead of panicking and looking for a scarf to cover it while matching your outfit perfectly, get rid of it by using one of the following tried and tested hickey removal methods.

You think that everything that results from moments of fierce passion is harmless and innocent? Well, you have obviously never been bitten on your neck and worn a small red mark for a couple of days. These tiny red dots are called hickeys and they result when your lover sucks or kisses your sensitive skin harder than usually. If you don’t like the idea of having a hickey on your neck or any other sensitive part of your body, you’re not the only one – there are plenty of lovers who have been through the same and found lots of solutions. As I myself belong in this group, I have personally selected the 5 most efficient, yet simple, quick and easy ways to help you get rid of your hickey.

1. Cold Compress: The cold compress is widely regarded as the most efficient treatment for hickeys, as the cold item you apply will constrict the broken blood capillaries and help reduce the redness. Simply wrap a hand full of ice cubes in a towel and hold it for 15-20 minutes on your hickey. The cold compress will also relieve the pain and prevent further swelling. If you don’t have any ice in your refrigerator, place a spoon in the refrigerator and let it cool for 10 minutes. However, keep in mind to not place the ice directly onto your skin in order to prevent ice burn or frostbite.

2. Toothpaste: As toothpaste is a well-known remedy for all sorts of bruises, it can also help you get rid of your hickey. The toothpaste does not only have calming properties, but it can also make the swelling disappear and the color to fade sooner. Take a small amount of mint or peppermint toothpaste and apply it directly onto your affected area. You might experience tingling feeling, but don’t let it force you to rub it off of your hickey. Instead, let the tingling feeling subside and soothe your pain. After half an hour, wash it off from your hickey with a towel dampened with warm water.

3. Toothbrush: While in your bathroom for toothpaste, take your reserve (unused) toothbrush too. This method will stimulate the blood circulation around and on the affected area. Take the toothbrush and brush your hickey in all directions. However, don’t brush it too hard if you don’t want to make it worse. At first, your hickey might appear bigger than before, but after a while, it will become less noticeable.

4. Massage: This treatment will scatter the clotted blood and reduce the color of your love mark. Use only two of you fingers and rub the affected area in circular motion and in one direction. After a while, change the direction and keep up rubbing it. Don’t press too light or too hard. Find the perfect amount of pressure to make your massage effective. To make it further efficient, you can use an essential oil.

5. Warm Compress: Since the essence of getting rid of hickeys is blood circulation, applying a warm compress makes sense. The warmth will stimulate new blood to circulate around the affected area and break up the old blood, so help you get rid of it sooner. To use this treatment, wet a towel with warm water and place it directly onto your hickey until it gets cold. When it gets cold, reheat and repeat. You can also use your hair dryer to heat up the area as an alternative.
