The bedroom is a sacred place. When at the end of the day, after all the turbulences at work, with friends, or in the family, you get home and switch to relax mode, you just want to crash into a clean, fresh and inviting bed where you’d simply forget it all and re-charge your batteries. I know how all fashionistas here would say that comfort is a thing to be sacrificed to keep style and décor, but I dare to differ. Not always. When it comes to the bed in my bedroom and all the ways it can contribute to a higher quality sleep, there’s nothing about it that I’m willing to compromise. I consider it sacred and I treat it that way.

Talking about the bed in the bedroom, I’ll leave aside all the magic and concentrate on the more mechanical part of it – the sheets. As an indispensable part of the bedroom bedding, the sheets have multiple purposes: they should cover the mattress, protect it, feel good to the skin and look good without disturbing the rest of the bedding. Impossible? Actually, more than possible. I recently bought a few fitted sheet sets in different colours just to prove that the bedding can be stylish, comfortable and functional. And I must say – bullseye!

Fitted sheets differ from the ordinary sheets by the elastic fitting they have in each corner. The elastic fitting helps the sheet to be kept in place on the bed, wrapping it smoothly and perfectly. With them, the mattress is fully protected as it’s wrapped completely. No collecting of dust mites, no grime and no dirt. On top of it all, perfect colours and material. From my experience, I can list a few characteristics of fitted sheets that you should pay much attention to.

Materials

It’s probably what would matter most to people who swear on style and interior design. The first thing you should be aware of is that if you’re mainly cold during the night, polyester materials are best for you. If not, then you can choose between the many luxuriously stylish and gentle to the touch materials like Egyptian cotton, Percale, cotton sateen and flanelette. These are in the group of luxurious materials for a reason: they literally make love to your skin.

Sizes

This is tightly connected with the size of your mattress – double-sized bed, queen or king size bed. The size of the sheets is usually displayed on their package and it’s easy to see. You want to get the right size for your mattress because if not, the sheet won’t fit perfectly, therefore will bother you while sleeping and will create wrinkles which will disturb your stylish bedding.

Colours

Fitted sheet sets contain sheets for the bed (mainly one or two in some cases) and pillowcases (1-2). These would be in the same material you chose and normally, in the same colour. Fitted sheets do come in various colour options allowing you to choose according to your bedroom colour scheme.

As you can see, fitted sheets don’t have to be those boring, kind of oldish sheets that remind you a lot of an empty hospital. They can be very stylish and made of high quality materials, which means the comfort they offer can easily find its place in the bedroom of fashionistas too.
